Jackson County can now boast an award winning roof on its courthouse.

The roof recently received an Excellence in Design award from American Buildings Co. in a competition among projects submitted by more than 1,000 industrial and commercial builders throughout North America. The annual competition promotes the aesthetic and architectural beauty that can be achieved using metal building systems.

Stephen Ward and Associated served as the architect on the project, and MG Roofing Inc. was the contractor. MG Roofing owner Montey Gaisser submitted the project for consideration in the contest.

Measuring 24,600 square feet, the roof of the Jackson County Courthouse was removed and replaced with a new retrofit roof system. Stephen Ward & Associates designed the existing modified roof. The clock was reconditioned and historically restored to it’s original design, and the clock tower was refinished with copper and stainless steel.

“We knew they were entering it in the contest,” said Jackson County Commission Chairman James Tidmore. “I am glad it won. It is pleasing to us that our roofing company was able to win a national contest with our roof design. That assures us we had a good job on our roof.”
